Kokoro written by Natsume Soseki Essay Essay Example

Kokoro composed by Natsume Soseki Essay Paper Natsume Soseki all through this new went into extraordinary thing about inviting relationship and the various periods of benevolent relationship. With a little guide from a grown-up male he met on the sea shore at Kamakura he went from a youthful grown-up male looking to hang on the great beyond to an extremely savvy college graduate with all his moral intentions set straightforwardly. Soseki’s tale the Kokoro ( â€Å"The chest of things† ) was an extremely wonderful novel to peruse. This epic was written in 1914 which was two mature ages after the expire of Emperor Meiji. All through this novel a cluster of requests were raised and for the most bit at last replied. We will compose a custom article test on Kokoro composed by Natsume Soseki Essay explicitly for you for just $16.38 $13.9/page Request now We will compose a custom exposition test on Kokoro composed by Natsume Soseki Essay explicitly for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Recruit Writer We will compose a custom paper test on Kokoro composed by Natsume Soseki Essay explicitly for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Recruit Writer Nipponese individuals during Meiji age ( 1868-1912 ) were in the main part of a significant transformation. The moderateness of the territory of Japan. Natsume Soseki at the ulterior pieces of the movement was perhaps the most significant and most different author of all [ 1 ] . Nipponese individuals at this clasp to a great extent lived in Traditional housing. By this I mean houses were regularly one story fundamental necessities nil like a portion of the houses that are being manufactured today. Sensei [ 2 ] on the different manus lived in non customary housing consequently planning he had a type of riches. After a couple of visits that Soseki had given Sensei at his diggingss I started to perceive that Nipponese individuals at this clasp were truly low. In spite of the fact that Sensei was truly perplexed on why Soseki kept on observing him and look for perception from him there was neer a point in the book that Sensei wanted anything hurtful or terrible for Soseki. Around this clasp of the primary gathering of Soseki and Sensei. Soseki was going through a modification each piece great. It expresses that over the couple months that Soseki went spot to be with family unit and his arrival to Tokyo that he was no a University understudy. This got my oculus since it expresses that he was a school student before [ 3 ] . After much research regarding this matter I could only go to a couple of premises of what this could plan. First â€Å"College† understudy may mean secondary school student here in the US. Furthermore it may mean undergrad whatever the genuine noteworthiness behind it will be it positively got my oculus as intriguing that their instructive framework was unique. Sak’e was a conventional mixed beverage in Japan at the clasp. Sensei states â€Å"Drinking sak’e benefits you to assimilate every so often [ 4 ] † . I could non get down to accept that during this reconstruction that Japan was voyaging hrough that Sensei was the solitary one soaking up sak’e. Despite the fact that Sensei’s wedded lady was non the greatest enthusiast of the beverage Sensei sure basked it. Taking a gander at the connection among Sensei and his wedded lady I couldn’t help to distinguish the most extreme devotedness they had towards one another. In spite of the fact that all through the book Sensei’s wedded lady Shizu ever appeared to give herself more. you could express that Sensei had a similar devotedness. Shizu was ever extremely submissive to Sensei requests. I envision this was use for grown-up females at this clasp in early Japan to be extremely devoted to their hubbies. It’s about this clasp when Sensei principal finds out about the Sosekis ( Soseki ) male parent being profoundly sick. Subsequent to hearing the side effects of his father’s unwellness the peruser starts to perceive that Sensei is exceptionally shrewd and knows unquestionably more so the regular grown-up male during this age. However Sensei stays jobless. In today’s universe most school students proceed with their guidance after secondary school for one aim and that purpose is regularly to procure a decent occupation and to go monetary autonomous. Chinese individuals during this clasp by realize offices had a similar territory of head as us in the United States at the present time. All through this novel I other than started to ask about how Chinese individuals cooperated with one another Sensei was extremely privy and did non want affection from anyone he other than was extremely opposed to swear anybody at one point Sensei inquires. â€Å"is your family truly wealthy† [ 5 ] he so proceeds to express that in the event that you â€Å"Give a Gentleman cash. what's more, he so turns into a reprobate [ 6 ] . Sensei could non hold been all the more right. His doubt in individuals and his speculation of the individuals of his twenty-four hours appeared to be somewhat brainsick to the college understudy he had told. Hence on in the book the Soseki male parent has gone alongside his female parent around a similar clasp. His uncle who he had trust in convince him to permit him assume control over the house and the legacy while he was in Tokyo go oning his guidance. Certain bounty the specific words Sensei had told his equivalent occurred. The uncle dwindled the legacy of the Soseki accordingly doing disdain between the different sides. At this clasp I feel like extremely barely any individuals could be trusted entirely. On the off chance that you had cash there were ever individuals trying to make things happen you and take what in bit was given to you. Sensei said he could swear figure and loved no natural structure with the exception of his wedded lady. The Soseki after the loss of legacy to his uncle â€Å"I have come to despise the full human race† [ 7 ] . This sounds definitely like something Sensei would hold said subsequently taking to oppugn if the vast majority at this clasp felt this way. This tale was truly satisfying to peruse. I should recognize I’m non an enormous peruser however this novel kept me snared. That being said the last point I would wish to obtain to is an extremely genuine one implosion. Self destruction is an extremely genuine activity in today’s universe. Truly before perusing this novel I genuinely only idea it was a vocation now and non such a great amount in the mid 1900s. What shocks me the most is these three work powers in this novel submitted implosion since they all felt they were separated on the off chance that you will to what they had longed for. None of them attempted to reconnect. I can non help yet ask at these occasions was it extremely conventional for a grown-up male or grown-up female to execute implosion. Between diseases these work powers were defying to the each twenty-four hours accentuation of monetary stableness and the devotedness these work powers had towards their hitched womans self destruction may hold been thought as the best alternative at the clasp.

On the Virtues of Private Property in Locke and Rousseau John Locke and Jean Jacques Rousseau, following their ancestor Thomas Hobbes, both endeavor to clarify the turn of events and disintegration of society and government. While authoritative parents might have high expectations for their children, they also give their kids the resources and support they need to succeed. Parents who exhibit this style listen to their kids and provide love and warmth in addition to limits and fair discipline. Illustration by Hugo Lin, Verywell Brief History During the 1960s, developmental psychologist Diana Baumrind described three different types of parenting styles: authoritarian, authoritative, and permissive. This was based on her research  with preschool-age children. The authoritative parenting style  is sometimes referred to as democratic. It involves a child-centric approach in which parents hold high expectations for their children. Traditionally, the authoritative parenting style has been identified as the most effective and helpful to a child; research suggests that parents should flexibly deploy parenting techniques based on their personal goals and the unique behaviors of each child. Characteristics According to Baumrind, authoritative parents share some common characteristics, including: They listen to their childrenThey allow their children to express opinionsThey encourage their children to discuss optionsThey foster independence and reasoningThey place limits, consequences, and expectations on their childrens behaviorThey express warmth and nurturingThey administer fair and consistent discipline when rules are broken While their expectations are high, they also tend to be flexible. If there are extenuating circumstances, they will adjust their response accordingly. Discipline, then, takes into account all of the variables, including the child’s behavior, the situation, and so on. Authoritative vs. Authoritarian Styles These characteristics can be contrasted with the authoritarian parenting style, which is characterized by exceedingly high expectations with little warmth and guidance. For example, imagine a situation where two young boys steal candy from the grocery store. One boy has authoritative parents, so when he finally arrives home, he receives a fair punishment that fits the nature of the transgression. He is grounded for two weeks and must return the candy and apologize to the store owner. His parents talk to him about why stealing is wrong, but are supportive and encourage him not to engage in such behavior again. The other boy has authoritarian parents, so when he arrives home, he is yelled at by both of them. His father spanks him and orders him to spend the rest of the night in his room without dinner. The child’s parents offer little support or love, and no feedback or guidance about why the theft was wrong. Effects In the past, child development experts  influenced by Baumrinds work generally identified the authoritative parenting style as the best approach to parenting. Research has repeatedly shown that children raised by authoritative parents tend to be more capable, happy, and successful. According to Baumrind, children of authoritative parents: Tend to have happier dispositionsHave good emotional control and regulationDevelop good social skillsAre self-confident about their abilities to learn new things Why it Works Authoritative parents act as role models and exhibit the same behaviors they expect from their children. Because of this, their kids are more likely to internalize these behaviors and exhibit them as well. Consistent rules and discipline also allow children to know what to expect. The parents tend to exhibit good emotional understanding and control. Their children also learn to manage their emotions and learn to understand others. Authoritative parents also allow children to act independently. This teaches kids that they are capable of accomplishing things on their own, helping to foster strong self-esteem and self-confidence. A Word From Verywell Some parents are naturally more authoritative than authoritarian or permissive. However, this doesnt mean that you cant adopt a more authoritative style, even if its not your default. It may mean that you will have to remain mindful of your actions while you work to develop these habits.   It might help to view this parenting style as a balance between discipline, emotional control, and allowing independence. Try not to be too harsh nor too lenient; you can start by letting your child make more decisions, but also have regular discussions about those choices.  With time, attention, and flexibility to your childs needs, this parenting method will become more natural.

Gangster Squad - Free Essay Example

Ruben Fleischer, which was made in January 2013. The genre of the movie is American action, crime, and thriller. I selected this movie because it just intrigues me how the underground world got started in Hollywood through gangs, big money, and drugs. What caught my attention on the poster was the name of the movie and how it looked like it was going to be in the 20th century and how the characters were ready for a fight. It takes place in Los Angeles where the mafia mostly got its start. Its about how the Los Angeles Police Department has to stop a mob boss or a mafia gang to make the streets better. The movie poster seems to represent an era in the early twentieth century according to the attire and the weapons in the picture. It makes it that century because the hair style the men have is slicked back indicating that the movie takes place in the forties or fifties. All three men are wearing light blue suits which could indicate they might be a detective or private investigation. The use of a tommy gun makes it like this too, because robbers dont use that kind of weaponry today. A lot of action is taking place in this poster with many things happening. The man on the left, Ryan Gosling, appears to be in his mid-thirties or forties. He seems to be thinking about a memory or maybe it could be at the girl in the bottom right. Just how their posture is on both of them. Goslings face looks more calm and collective than the other two men on the poster. In his right hand hes holding a cigarette, which could mean he is under stress or going through a hard time in his life. He also seems to be sitting down in a chair based on how hes resting his arm on his leg. Hes facing away towards the side of the poster, where there is a light glistening on half his face. It could indicate that hes looking at something thats towards a bright object. On the front of the poster it says, No Names. No Badges. No Mercy. This means that no names will be given for someone who ratted out. No badges indicate that some of the people on the poster are undercover cops. It could also be that certain men dont want to have their names seen on their badges to lose their identity. No mercy is probably suggesting that they have to do what they have to do. To no mercy that the men are going to do anything it takes to stop either the police force or the mafia, and nobody is safe. Followed by the quote, there is a woman (Emma Stone) wearing a bright red dress. It could signify that shes very seductive-showing her full body as opposed to the men shown. The color of the red dress could indicate love and passion, which could suggest some romance with one of the main characters. She has a seductive facial expression and posture as if shes looking at someone or the audience. Next to her feet is the release date of the movie on January 11th. The Hollywoodland sign in the background means that it takes place in the late forties of Los Angeles. The land part was torn down because the whole sign needed to be repaired and it didnt want to reflect the district as Hollywoodland as a housing development. The sky in the background is cloudy and creates a darkness over the three characters symbolizing a possible crime or action. The dark sky could also mean that things are going to be foul play or even death. The character on the right of the poster has a serious expression. Hes holding a pistol, pointing it towards the front of the poster. He might be looking at someone who is probably armed or a criminal. He seems to be an officer or undercover cop based on his appearance. He has his eyes locked on something that isnt shown and his finger ready on the trigger in case that someone is trying to get away from him. The final character in the upper middle section has an aggressive facial expression. Hes looking towards what Ryan Gosling is looking at, but he has his head down and his eyes are up as if he is looking at someone on a higher level than he is. He is also holding a tommy gun in his left hand, which it could probably signify that he is the leader of the two men or the mob boss of a gang or the enemy of them. He has more darkness on his face than the other characters on the poster meaning that hes the bad guy in the movie. In the middle of the three men there appears to be an explosion of some sort or a big blaze. It has six men in front of the flame as if they may blown up something and not feel bad about it. Behind the men and in the flames appears to be an old car of some sort. It probably had the six men in the vehicle or someone died in it. It could also be that they are above the movie title Gangster Squad and may be the squad in the movie. The poster designer is probably trying to get everyones attention of the three men with weapons and the flames between them. To also make people know that its going to be an action and adventure movie set back in the forties with gangsters in it. The target audience is people who are into mafia movies, crime, action, thriller, and violence. All the names of the main actors in the movie are in the poster besides one. It could be that the character dies maybe or hes with the other six men in the flames. It doesnt include the directors name, probably to keep the poster looking like an old poster. The poster Gangster Squad is effective for a person who wants to see a classic mafia movie with old cars, guns, and flashy clothing. Some people might want to just relive that old feeling of Los Angeles. Its trying to bring in people who are from that kind of era or who have seen things about mafia gangsters. The audience it tries to bring in are probably teens to sixty or seventy year olds who enjoy these kind of movies. This poster really makes me want to go see it just by looking at the characters and the tommy gun itself. To me, I think this poster is successful, but the director should add more of like a city in the back besides the hills of Hollywood. Maybe to some people the hills could signify that its hard to get over things. I particularly like that this movie poster had that retro look to it. It makes me want to revisit what it felt like to be there when all that happened in Los Angeles. I dont have anything really to dislike about the poster. Its a great movie poster describing most of what everyone would expect in the movie by just the characters, title, and the background. Overall, Gangster Squad really looks like a great movie to watch and encourage people who like mafia and gangsters. This is a must see!

The Effects of Regular Exercise on Depression - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 874 Downloads: 7 Date added: 2019/04/15 Category Psychology Essay Level High school Topics: Depression Essay Did you like this example? Hypothesis: The elevated levels of endorphins released during exercise make it an effective treatment for depression. My Initial Hypothesis When people hear the word fitness, they generally think of physical strength and endurance. When it comes down to it, the fitness lifestyle is all about the overall health of a person, not just physical resilience, strength, and endurance. That is why fitness is a lifestyle, not just a sporadic schedule of trips to the track or gym. While a somewhat irregular workout schedule can produce some results physically, it will not produce any significant change to ones physical state and most importantly will not result in a person receiving the full fitness experience, including its mental benefits. I myself once believed that fitness was only a physical matter, and so I only pursued the physical side of fitness in the form of running and lifting. I was not aware that fitness was about more than that. I was also not aware of the fact that while I was only pursuing the physical side of fitness, it was affecting my mind as well. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Effects of Regular Exercise on Depression" essay for you Create order After spending more time in the fitness community, I noticed that everyone I met who was serious about fitness was very easygoing, nice, relaxed in nature, and simply overall less noticeably depressed than any other group of people that I associate with. I eventually began to wonder whether this had anything to do with the physical activity itself causing people to behave this way, and if so could it help some of my other friends with depression. Physical performance is always affected by a persons mental state, so it seems very plausible that things could work the other way around as well, that a persons mental state may be affected by their physical performance since there is obviously a connection between body and mind. The Empirical Evidence There are several things that happen to the human brain as a result of exercise. Exercise balances the levels of several endorphins in the brain, as well as increasing the production of BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor), which helps build and maintain the infrastructure of the brain (Noble 2016). The balancing of endorphins in the brain can improve a persons mood and behavior. According to the Australian Institute of Fitness, the endorphins affected are serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. Together, these endorphins are responsible for influencing things such as mood, attention, motivation, arousal, and feelings of wellbeing (Noble 2016). This means that the person who exercised will experience an increase in happiness, motivation, and self esteem as a result. Put together the fact that my fitness friends are all significantly less noticeably depressed than some of my other friends and the fact that exercise often results in increased happiness, motivation, and self-esteem, it seems as if there is a connection. To be sure, the factors that result in and affect depression itself need to be examined. According to NAMI (National Association on Mental Illness), depression is caused by a wide range of things, which vary from case to case. The most commonly known cause is a chemical imbalance in the brain, though this cause is apparently given more credit than it deserves. Recent studies now show that depression may be related to genetically passed traits or cell growth and brain connections as well, meaning that no one treatment works for every case, as the causes of depression vary from case to case (Roberts 2014). In an interview with therapist Dr. Lagro, I learned that there is also a correlation between depression and vitamin deficiencies. Considering that many forms of fitness take place outside, fitness could provide someone with time in the sun, which could potentially help with a vitamin D deficiency. It is common knowledge that regular exercise over a long period of time will produce changes in appearance and performance. These changes may increase the self esteem of someone with depression, which is often lowered as a result of depression (Laskowski 2017) Such changes apply to any form of exercising, from running and walking to lifting weights. My Current Opinion My hypothesis was supported. After examining the empirical evidence related to fitness and depression, I believe that regular exercise can be an effective treatment for depression. In my hypothesis I stated that regular exercise could make an effective treatment for depression due to the endorphins released, which is true, but I found exercise to have more benefits which could positively affect a persons depression. These benefits include the chance to lower a vitamin D deficiency do to time in the sun, and heightened self esteem caused by changes in physical appearance and performance as a result of regular exercise over a period of time. These benefits would effectively treat cases of depression where self-esteem and self-image issues are a factor, as well as cases where a vitamin D deficiency is evident. Unfortunately, while exercise could affectively treat depression related to endorphin imbalances, vitamin D deficiencies, and self esteem issues, those are only a few causes and supporting factors of depressi on (Roberts 2014). Due to this, regular exercise as a treatment would only be effective in some cases of depression, as others may require a treatment that is not remotely similar. Despite this limitation, it is still an option to be explored.

Separation Of Church And State - 1095 Words

Essay on The Trait Theory of Personality - 2121 Words

The study of personality traits is beneficial in identifying the many variables that exist from human to human; the combinations of these variables provide us with a true level of individuality and uniqueness. In the field of psychology, trait theory is considered to be a key approach to the study of human personality (Crowne, 2007; Burton, Westen Kowalski, 2009). This paper aims to identify a number of significant contributors who have played crucial roles in both the development and application of trait theory. This paper then moves focus to these theorists, outlining their theory and analysing both the strengths and weaknesses of those theories. According to Buchanan (2010), German born psychologist Hans Eysenck devoted much of his career to both personality and intelligence research with much of this time spent in British universities. According to Haggbloom (2002), Eysenck’s research was thoroughly respected with him being the most regularly cited psychologist in science journals at the time of his passing. In 1947 Eysenck’s first book outlined what Eysenck viewed as the two central factors of personality; neuroticism and introversion/extraversion. Five years later Eysenck added another factor; psychoticism (Buchanan, 2010, p. 73). According to Carnivez Allen (2005), British born psychologist Raymond Cattell centred his studies on factor analysis. His work observed him meticulously reduce Allport’s list of traits to less than two hundred. Applying his factor analysis knowledge, Cattell developed the 16PF questionnaire in 1949. Now in its fifth edition, it is still in wide use to this day (Boyle, Matthews Saklofske, 2008). According to Tucker (2009), Cattell argued that while Eysenck’s three factor approach to personality was simpler, his own method was more thorough.Show MoreRelatedPersonality Traits And Theories Of Personality1513 Words   |  7 PagesThe term personality has been defined several times in different ways throughout the history of psychology. Imagining the World through the Arts for Drama and Puppetry

Question: Discuss about theImagining the World through the Arts for Drama and Puppetry. Answer: Talking in the context of the children the creative arts refers to the practices and the forms of arts which nourishes the creativity in each of the children during their early childhood. The examples of such art forms are dancing, art and crafts, music, drama and puppetry. These types of art forms initiate and shape a childs imagination and open several exclusive possibilities for each and every child. The creative arts are another way to teach the children that it is not right to emphasize only on the results rather than the method or the way by which a person reaches the conclusion is far more significant. Creative arts open up several domains and foster flexibility in the minds of the children. The types of Creative Arts judge the knowledge, competencies, and values, of the children developed by them after learning the various types of creative arts. Each of the genres of the art ( like dance, art and crafts, visual arts and music) is formed around four strands which are inter-related with each other. The four strands are: Understanding the context of the art, gaining the practical knowledge of the art form, the ability creates in arts, the ability to interpret and communicate the various forms of arts. Understanding the theme of art helps learning to acknowledge the power of arts to shape the entire world(Durden, Escalante Blitch, 2015).To enquire about the evolving nature of art over a period of time, the forms of art have been constantly changing and adapting with the evolving emotional state of the human beings. This also helps to find out the interrelation between tarts and the contemporary forms of art in the creative industry. The function of the next strand is to develop the practical skills required to master a particular form of art and to connect them (Russell-Bowie, 2012). This form teaches exploration and experimentation of the methods of the art forms, learning and using different structures, technologies and processes related to the arts and also engaging with others who are interested in these forms of art and to interact and learn from them. It also makes one to apply new techniques in the practical application of the arts. The students develop the ability to put forward creative ideas with the help of various types of creative art forms and in this way, they also develop a creative power (Wilkinson et al., 2017). By going through the process of arts and making up different ideas to create a new form of it. Building confidence and expressing ones emotions and feelings through the forms of creative art, sharing the ideas of development with others for further learning, creating unique artwork reflecting the knowledge gained from the learning and practice. Communicating and interpreting in the arts helps to promote and refine the chances of the children and also to share and convert the meaning of the creative forms by presenting their own form of art using the contemporary forms of art (Ewing, 2010 ). Viewing the works done by others from a critical point and to respond to such art works. Challenging oneself and others to practice a different form of learning the new ways of the art forms. To understand the ideas related to various forms of art and practicing various forms of the same. The benefits and significance of creative arts in the early childhood include the physical and the all-round mental development of the children; it helps to reduce stress and also at the same time enhances emotional stability. One may easily question that how the creative arts can help in the development of motor skills in the children, but the answer is rather a simple one. While drawing or creating crafts the children develops their ability to hold things and utilize them as per their necessity enhances their physical movement skills (Hopkins, Geangu Linkenauger, 2017). Although people take, their ability to work and function for granted but everyone has adapted with their motor skills since their childhood, and these skills are developed in the stages of early childhood. The different types of activities help to build the ability to function properly in the children. For example, at the time when a child tries to draw something or try to grab something using their hand then it en hances the eye co-ordination with the hand (Formosinho Formosinho, 2017). While dancing, playing the children the children engages into various physical movements, which also increases their physical abilities. All these skills later help in the future proper body function when children grow into an adult. Obviously, the creative arts provide an outlet to the youngsters to investigate and take up control over their feelings, as well (Stoll, 2015). The expressions of the humans have dependably been believed to be an enthusiastic and expressive diversion, and this remains constant for kids too, despite the fact that in a way unique in relation to for more established people (McPherson, 2015). For instance, while human expressions enable grown-ups to show sentiments they may in some way or another experience issues communicating. The show of the human experience helps the children to explore their own feelings, and this helps them to become better furnished to manage the high points and low points that will end up being a part of their lives as they grow up. As told by the scientists, the form of creative arts help the kids to learn about subjectivity of a thing (Duffy, 2006). As per Lev Vygotsky, such ways help the children to learn certain new things, the children learn by trying to understand the meaning of the actions they see in their surroundings and they then start copying the same. Besides, according to him the social interaction of the kids was very important for this particular process, calling it "platform," where a child with a very limited knowledge base expands his/her aptitude level by copying an individual with a bigger and better learning base, like a grown-up (Moore, 2017). For instance, if a kid with low motor skills see that another child is doing good at painting then the other one will try to imitate the child will better abilities and will learn in the process. The direction of activity is the example of a suitable pedagogical principle, which helps in the intellectual, and the aesthetic development of the children. The children copy the activities from others and they learn in the process (Stoll, 2015). This process is now mostly followed in the primary schools where the teachers perform various activities, the children follow and in turn. While selecting these activities the teacher needs to be careful and follow certain sub principles (Singer, 2017). The learning objectives and the learning procedures should be similar in every way. Activities make the children learn a lot of things and they carry this knowledge further into the future when they grow up. Thus, direction of activities is one of the most important principles for all round development Reference List: Durden, T. R., Escalante, E., Blitch, K. (2015). Start with us! After logging on to the Netflix Web site, a new subscriber browses the virtual aisles and select movies that he or she desires to watch. These movies are then used to build the subscriber’s queue. The website makes it easy for subscribers to edit the queue, such that the list can be arranged in the desired order. The company then ships the DVDs at the top of the queue to subscribers. Netflix is plagued with technological concerns as far as its ability to move to offering online video from DVDs, this leads to a loss in subscribers. Netflix still has indications of a cash flow Achilles’ heel as compared to its competitors (Blockbuster, Comcast). They also experience high cost on product acquisition. It experiences competition from about every part of the entertainment industry from cable, digital, and satellite services, including the pay-per-view option and movie channels such as HBO, and Showtime. Due to this an extensive choice of substitutes is offered as a result from the diverse competition. (Marks, 2005). Case study 2: Blockbuster Blockbuster Entertainment Corporation is an adjustable company that notices prospects and is conscious of the challenges that come with every business venture. In so doing it has to be conscious of forthcoming corporations that provide same kind of services for example Hollywood Video. Blockbuster has seized the opening to spread out their services from providing just movies to offering new movies and video games. A main element of Blockbuster’s products is made up of video games. Blockbuster has expanded its operations to include products such as the console games which have further increased its market share by the acquisition of American Satellite and Video Inc. â€Å"American Satellite operates Rhino Video Games, which is a games retail chain. Rhino Video buys, sells, and trades video games. Rhino has 40 retail stores in the Southeast, including Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina† (Leon, 2009).Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Netflix and Blockbuster Battle for Market Leadership specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Expansion and Acquisition of Stores Locations Blockbuster seized the opportunity to expand to different countries and will continue to spread to other countries. Blockbuster has greatly expanded internationally and is currently in 27 countries across North America, Central America, South America, Asia, and Europe. Blockbuster went from 1500 stores in 1990 to over 8000 stores worldwide in 2002; this expansion is the key to Blockbuster’s success. They have used this expansion to penetrate th e market and capture market share. In 2001, Blockbuster’s worldwide revenues surpassed $5 billion, and 20 percent of that was generated outside the U.S. Blockbuster will continue to expand as it is doing in Central America to capture more and more market share (Lamb McDaniel 2005), Blockbuster Entertainment Corporation is an adaptive company that sees opportunity and is aware of the challenges. New ideas are important on topics such as how to compete with internet video rental companies and how to capture the video game rental market. Entering into new countries has been a main focus as well. Blockbuster has also used its three main revenue producers to compete in the vastly growing industry. Blockbuster has also had to keep up with many technological threats. Investments have been down so strategic alliances have been formed to strengthen the company. Online movie rentals and sales have proven to be a necessity considering all the recent technological advances. With all of these things in mind Blockbuster has made many adaptations since the case and should be able to remain competitive in the industry. (Haag Phillips, 2005). Key Findings A thorough examination of strategies, resources, and fund raising procedures for up-and-coming growth and middle-market corporations is mandatory for any intended growth to be achieved or realized. This paper has examined both Netflix and blockbuster and provides wide-ranging and convenient recommendations on appreciating and applying the basics of corporate finance to upcoming and middle-market corporations. Haag Phillips ( 2005) notes â€Å"by means of utilizing empirical data and real company case studies to demonstrate resource structures and investment approaches, the recommendations provide an in depth argument of the numerous grant mechanisms.† These can range from conventional bank credits and asset-based funding to diverse types of private equity and other innovative resolution which may include a va riety of financial support sources, their projected rates of returns and the deal terms. Geoff (2006) notes â€Å"results of the analysis are used in reaching business decisions by external parties, such as whether or not to invest in or go into a partnership with the analyzed company.† By and large corporate excellence of a business can be assessed by examining the company’s core elements, purpose, objectives and procedures. For example, a company may produce products of flawless quality but have a scandalous customer service record. As such, a total company evaluation may be broken down into minor, related evaluations to look into the various parts of the company. When all the reports from the different analysis are implemented as one, a full size representation of the company’s well being is fashioned. (Geoff, 2006). Strategies for company growth recommended Company analyses often begin from top management or administration team and trickle down to subordinate ranks of the corporation. Together with every segment of the company in the scrutiny procedure make available a well-formed appraisal of the company. This examination possibly will necessitate use of departmental plans or strategies. In trade, administration analysis characteristically centers on procedures, business culture or economic performance. Operational evaluation comprises how a business carries out its responsibilities, business culture, relates to bu siness philosophies and practices, and economic assessments are the returns obtained from business functions. (Gamble Arthur, 2004) Companies should find ways of expanding their geographical cover of potential market bases by setting up new stores in new areas, and also through promotion of diverse brand of products that create an appeal and attract potential clientele and retain clients they once upon a time were not able to get in touch with. Corporations intending to grow should carry out frequent analyses of the foremost industry they form a part of; this helps them get a comprehensive grasp on what is required, for example both Netflix should have a sense of the type of movies and services Blockbuster is offering to its clients so as to come up with better services and vice versa. Divide the strategies formulated after carrying out the analysis into specific groups; for example market strategies, people strategies, products and services, administration and organization and fi nally finance. These helps the company be able to implement the strategies and plans fully and realize their objectives. Hire and recruit with high energy levels and good health so as to have maximum employee output Examine the company’s potentiality in terms of resources and finances, before embarking on growth. Another important and strong strategy is to think of globalization. Relating particular products with global events like the world cup can give the world a product it can share in entirely. One should use one of the following techniques in sales. Sales staff – add the time they spend on sales, increase their human resource and their knowledge, skills; communicate with sales representatives, distributors; improve customers’ information of what’s on hand. Evaluate peoples remuneration to ensure that all have equal packages and also that the people feel that the remuneration and compensation is awarded without bias. People should be educated in orde r to understand the benefits of a company’s benefit package. Constant specialized training and skill enhancement for employees to upgrade their job output. Examine the company’s association with existing and possible clients, its familiarity of varying needs and opportunities in the marketplace, the way it classifies and contacts its regulars, service quality and speed of products being offered, marketing, advertising, and the selling and management skills its possesses. Managers should monitor and utilize resources efficiently for the company’s growth by encompassing the highest quality of know-how and accounting and budgeting systems. In the process they should also be able to establish what can be done to develop precision and relevance of accounting so performance information is accessible in real time. (Andrà ©, 2007). Conclusion Businesses may opt for an outside company to carry out a company analysis for them. This option provides an objective opinion o f the company and managers are provided with innovative ideas from an outside source without biasness, looking to make changes that will offer significant company returns and realization of objectives. The function of performance examination is to determine whether a company is carrying on well, this information is very vital in attracting investors and also identify areas that call for upgrading. Proper run companies carry out internal analysis on a frequent basis, to be able to keep in touch with changes influencing the company’s performance. Managers come with findings of the evaluation and table them before stakeholders at annual general meetings, with a purpose of catching the attention of potential business prospects. Companies that carry out regular analysis are more in touch with the diverse background issues touching the business and are more vibrant and receptive to market forces. Competition is good for business as the more quality varieties of a certain product in the market are available then, product demand is also high. Reference List Andrà ©, R. (2007). Creatine Crazy essays

Creatine Crazy essays Now batting in the clean-up position at this years baseball World Series is Mr. Creatine (Frankel 1). As the pitcher winds up, he knows in his heart that his new opponent, an amino acid supplement hiding in the muscle tissues of the batter, now threatens him. He delivers the pitch over the fat part of the plate and Mr. Creatine swings and drives the ball deep into center field. Back, back, back, going, going, gone, another awesome four hundred ten foot homerun for Mr. Creatine and the Major League Baseball Association! Thats right, more homeruns and runs batted in, as well as an increased popularity and swelling revenue at the box office, have brought national attention to the sport of baseball. To use or not to use, that is the question (Frankel 1). For years and years, athletes of all sports were using steroids to bulk up their physique. Today, the use of steroids has dropped rapidly since the presence of mandatory drug testing in professional sports. However, athletes are s till trying to obtain a performance edge, and many have found that answer in creatine. The controversy continues as trainers, coaches, and owners are arguing its use on a daily basis. What will the long-term effects be to young high school, college, and professional athletes? Certainly there are risks involved with creatines use, however baseball needs creatine for its own survival. According to the Dymatize Creatine Manufactory (DCM), creatine monohydrate is a naturally occurring metabolite found in red muscle tissue. DCM also explains that the supplement acts as a powerful aid in the energizing of muscle strength and the enhancing of athletic performance. (Williams 1) Creatine is one of the twenty amino acids, and can be found in lean red meat, tuna, salmon, pork, or beef. For example, a two-pound beefsteak equals approximately 5 grams of creatine, and a two pound piece of salmon contains around 6 gra...

The Enormous Bronze Age Shang Dynasty Capital of Yin

The Enormous Bronze Age Shang Dynasty Capital of Yin Anyang is the name of a modern city in Henan Province of eastern China that contains the ruins of Yin, the massive capital city of the late Shang Dynasty (1554 -1045 BC). In 1899, hundreds of ornately carved tortoise shells and ox scapulas called oracle bones were found in Anyang. Full-scale excavations began in 1928, and since then, investigations by Chinese archaeologists have revealed nearly 25 square kilometers (~10 square miles) of the enormous capital city. Some of the English-language scientific literature refers to the ruins as Anyang, but its Shang Dynasty residents knew it as Yin. Founding Yin Yinxu (or the Ruins of Yin in Chinese) has been identified as the capital Yin described in Chinese records such as the Shi Ji, based on the inscribed oracle bones which (among other things) document the activities of the Shang royal house. Yin was founded as a small residential area on the south bank of the Huan River, a tributary of the Yellow River of central China. When it was founded, an earlier settlement called Huanbei (sometimes referred to as Huayuanzhuang) was located on the north side of the river. Huanbei was a Middle Shang settlement built around 1350 BC, and by 1250 covered an area of approximately 4.7 sq km (1.8 sq km), surrounded by a rectangular wall. An Urban City But in 1250 BC, Wu Ding, the 21st king of the Shang Dynasty {ruled 1250-1192 BC], made Yin his capital. Within 200 years, Yin had expanded into an enormous urban center, with an estimated population of somewhere between 50,000 and 150,000 people. The ruins include more than 100 pounded earth palace foundations, numerous residential neighborhoods, workshops and production areas, and cemeteries. The urban core of Yinxu is the palace-temple district at the core called Xiaotun, covering approximately 70 hectares (170 acres) and located at a bend in the river: it may have been separated from the rest of the city by a ditch. More than 50 rammed earth foundations were found here in the 1930s, representing several clusters of buildings which had been built and rebuilt during the citys use. Xiaotun had an elite residential quarter, administrative buildings, altars, and an ancestral temple. Most of the 50,000 oracle bones were found in pits in Xiaotun, and there were also numerous sacrificial pits containing human skeletons, animals, and chariots. Residential Workshops Yinxu is broken into several specialized workshop areas that contain evidence of jade artifact production, the bronze casting of tools and vessels, pottery making, and bone and turtle shell working. Multiple, massive bone and bronze working areas have been discovered, organized into a network of workshops that were under the control of a hierarchical lineage of families. Specialized neighborhoods in the city included Xiamintun and Miaopu, where bronze casting took place; Beixinzhuang where bone objects were processed; and Liujiazhuang North where serving and storage pottery vessels were made. These areas were both residential and industrial: for example, Liujiazhuang contained ceramic production debris and kilns, interspersed with rammed-earth house foundations, burials, cisterns, and other residential features. A major road led from Liujiazhuang to the Xiaotun palace-temple district. Liujiazhuang was likely a lineage-based settlement; its clan name was found inscribed on a bronze seal and bronze vessels in an associated cemetery. Death and Ritual Violence at Yinxu Thousands of tombs and pits containing human remains have been found at Yinxu, from massive, elaborate royal burials, aristocratic graves, common graves, and bodies or body parts in sacrificial pits. Ritual mass killings particularly associated with royalty were a common part of Late Shang society. From the oracle bone records, during Yins 200-year occupation more than 13,000 humans and many more animals were sacrificed. There were two types of state-supported human sacrifice documented in the oracle bone records found at Yinxu. Renxun or human companions referred to family members or servants killed as retainers at the death of an elite individual. They were often buried with elite goods in individual coffins or group tombs. Rensheng or human offerings were massive groups of people, often mutilated and decapitated, buried in large groups for the most part lacking grave goods. Rensheng and Renxun Archaeological evidence for human sacrifice at Yinxu is found in pits and tombs found across the entire city. In residential areas, sacrificial pits are small in scale, mostly animal remains with human sacrifices relatively rare, most with only one to three victims per event, although occasionally they had as many as 12. Those discovered at the royal cemetery or in the palace-temple complex have included up to several hundred human sacrifices at once. Rensheng sacrifices were made up of outsiders, and are reported in the oracle bones to have come from at least 13 different enemy groups. Over half of the sacrifices were said to have come from Qiang, and the largest groups of human sacrifices reported on the oracle bones always included some Qiang people. The term Qiang may have been a category of enemies located west of Yin rather than a particular group; little grave goods have been found with the burials. Systematic osteological analysis of the sacrifices has not been completed as of yet, but stable isotope studies among and between sacrificial victims were reported by bioarchaeologist Christina Cheung and colleagues in 2017; they found that the victims were indeed nonlocals. It is possible that rensheng sacrifice victims may have been slaves before their deaths; oracle bone inscriptions document the enslavement of the Qiang people and chronicling their involvement in productive labor. Inscriptions and Understanding Anyang Over 50,000 inscribed oracle bones and several dozen bronze-vessel inscriptions dated to the Late Shang period (1220-1050 BC) have been recovered from Yinxu. These documents, together with later, secondary texts, were used by British archaeologist Roderick Campbell to document in detail the political network at Yin. Yin was, like most Bronze Age cities in China, a kings city, built to the order of the king as a created center of political and religious activity. Its core was a royal cemetery and palace-temple area. The king was the lineage leader, and responsible for leading rituals involving his ancient ancestors and other living relations in his clan. In addition to reporting political events such as the numbers of sacrificial victims and to whom they were dedicated, the oracle bones report the kings personal and state concerns, from a toothache to crop failures to divination. Inscriptions also refer to schools at Yin, perhaps places for literacy training, or perhaps where trainees were taught to maintain divination records. Bronze Technology The Late Shang dynasty was at the apex of bronze making technology in China. The process used high-quality molds and cores, which were pre-cast to prevent shrinkage and breaking during the process. The molds were made of a fairly low percentage of clay and an accordingly high percentage of sand, and they were fired before use to produce a high resistance to thermal shock, low thermal conductivity, and a high porosity for adequate ventilation during casting. Several large bronze foundry sites have been found. The largest identified to date is the Xiaomintun site, covering a total area of over 5 ha (12 ac), up to 4 ha (10 ac) of which have been excavated. Archaeology in Anyang To date, there have been 15 seasons of excavations by Chinese authorities since 1928, including the Academia Sinica, and its successors the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. A joint Chinese-American project conducted excavations at Huanbei in the 1990s. Yinxu was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006. Sources Campbell Roderick  B, Li Z, He Y, and Jing Y. 2011.
